How long does it take to complete job?
Depending on the type of flooring system desired, it may take anywhere from one to three days to complete. The primary factors are the amount of floor preparation required prior to installation of coatings and the number of coats required . Custom Logo and Designs can take from 2-3 weeks.
Do you use acid etching?
We do not use acid etching as a method of surface preparation. Acid etching creates a profile; it does not remove grease, oil, or other foreign matter that will compromise the integrity of the coating and its adhesion. Also, acid etching is not an acceptable method of surface preparation for most industrial floor coatings. While acid etching creates pores on the surface, it does not eliminate the “cream” like shot blasting. Mechanical preparation is the only preferred industry standard.
What methods of preparation do you use?
Mechanical profiling by shotblasting and or diamond grinding are the primary methods we use, for surface preparation. This equipment can remove previously failed coatings as well as surface contaminants and other foreign matter.
How long will a Kong-Crete floor last?
Owners want a flooring system that will last forever, and will be guaranteed. Kong-Crete guarantees our work for three years from completion. As with any floor coating, periodic maintenance is required.
What can damage my floor?
Anything that can damage the concrete, can damage the floor coating. If something heavy were to be dropped on the floor that could conceivably damage concrete, it could also damage the floor coating. Our coatings have superior properties for UV blocking, color retention, chemical resistance, moisture permeability and scratch resistance. Will our coatings turn yellow over time?
Our protective top coat consists of a two part industrial grade urethane which provides superior UV protection and resists yellowing. We apply 2 top coats to insure proper protection.
Do you have insurance?
We carry Worker's Compensation insurance and full liability insurance.
Do you remove items from garage?
Our standard proposal does not include removing items from garage or other locations. We can perform these tasks for an additional fee.
Why are your products different from products we can purchase at home improvement stores?
We only use industrial grade products that are not available at your home improvement or local hardware store. Using these products requires specific certifications, technical training, specialized equipment and professional experienced applicators. Our products have been developed and used in industrial settings for decades including: schools, hospitals, aircraft hangers and many more.
Do you cover up expansion joints?
No. Expansion joints and cold or control joints are necessary to prevent cracking of the concrete. Concrete must be allowed to expand and contract with environmental changes. Expansion joints may be caulked to a desired color of you choice. Please visit our joint color options on our options page.
Can cracks be repaired?
Absolutely. All cracks are repaired using high strength flexible epoxies prior to applying coatings. While most cracks will not present future problems, Kong-Crete cannot guarantee your floor from movement and ongoing cracking.
Are there temperature guidelines for installing epoxy floors?
Yes, there are minimum surface and air temperature requirements for most of the products we use. Generally, surface and air temperatures must exceed 40F. However, we do have a coating that can be applied down to -30 degrees for those that would like garage floors finished in the middle of winter.
